Alvena Doerr

Alvena A. Doerr, age 99 of Shawneetown, but formerly of Carmi and Ridgway, died September 28, 2014 in the Saline Care Center in Harrisburg. Alvena was born in Ridgway on December 21, 1914 to the late Ed and Theresa (Newman) Raben. Alvena was a retired Nursing Assistant. She was married in 1944 to Albert ""Beanie"" Doerr, who preceded her in death in 1979. She was a Catholic by faith growing up a child in St. Joseph Church in Ridgway and in later years after moving to Carmi was a member of the St. Polycarp Catholic Church in Carmi. She was a member of the American Legion/VFW Ladies Auxillary , the church Altar Society and Guild. Alvena loved her work and friends but always loved her family. She was a good mother, grandmother, sister and friend with a beautiful soul that will be missed.

Alvena is survived by a daughter, Donna (Alan) McClaughry of Shawneetown, 3 grandchildren, Jim Krikie, Lora Holloway, and Ronnie McClaughry, 4 Great Grandchildren, Dakota Capeheart, David Holloway, Zach Holloway, and Chase Holloway, 1 great great grandchild, Gabriel 1 sister, Eva Parker. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 2 sisters, Stella Fromm and Louise Unthank, 3 brothers, Bob Raben, Jerry Raben and Ray Raben.

Visitation for Alvena will be on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown . A prayer service will be said at 6:30 PM on Tuesday. Funeral Mass for Alvena will be on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the St. Mary's Chapel of St. Kateri Catholic Church in Shawneetown with Fr. Steven Beatty as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Ridgway.
