Andrew Smith, Jr

Andrew C. Smith, Jr., age 72, lifelong Ridgway resident passed on this life, Tuesday, February 06, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.  Andy as most knew him was born in Ridgway on October 11, 1945 to the late Andrew Smith Sr and Emma (Hopson) Smith.  Andy graduated from Ridgway High School and entered the United States Army serving in Vietnam. He was a member of the Ridgway VFW.  He had worked in the Coal mines for many years before retiring, and also worked on farms.  He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting.  Andy always had a smile with a kind heart.  He will be missed.

Andy is survived by his 2 sisters,  Emma (Don) Lutz of Ridgway, Janet Hopson of Ridgway and Hershel Smith of Omaha, IL.  Nieces and Nephews, Carla (Linda) Holmes Taylor, Lisa Holmes, Lori Hopson, Emily (Matt) Dardeen, Alex Hopson, Tonya(Thomas) Moore, Lee Smith, Chris (Lori) Smith, and Marsha (Jason) Lawler. Great Nieces and Nephews Hayden & Hayley Moore, Caleb and Colton Smith, Aundrea, Mackenzie, Casey and Dillon Lawler, Nathan Collins and Justin Hopson, Emma and Ethan Holmes.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John William Smith and a brother in law, John Hopson.

Graveside services will precede burial on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Old Cottonwood Cemetery northeast of Ridgway.  Military rites will follow the service.  All attending should go directly to the cemetery.
