Shawneetown

Annie Ruth (Baltimore) Green age 93 of Shawneetown, IL passed away on October 21, 2023. Anyone who knew Annie knew that she had a kind heart and was a wonderful friend to many. Annie was born December 15, 1929, in Lorman, Mississippi to the late Adriel R. Baltimore and Isabella (Stamps) Baltimore. Annie was the Director of Special Education for Omaha Public Schools in Nebraska for over 25 years. She co-directed the Garnett-Green Perceptual Motor Training Center for children with learning disabilities. Upon retirement, she and her husband George Green moved to his hometown, Shawneetown. Annie right away made Shawneetown her new hometown and actively supported the community, church, and a long list of organizations.

In 2010, Annie, a member of the Shawneetown Historical Society, led efforts to construct a memorial to the black community. For her efforts, she was named Citizen of the Year by the Lion’s Club. Every day of her life reflected the Christian values she held closely in her heart. Everyone always mentioned her as always having a smile and kind words for everyone. Plus... she often had on a great hat! She was the best mother one could hope to have and a very devoted and loving wife. Annie and George Green were married 49 years at the time of his death in 2004. Annie is predeceased by her husband George Robert Green. She is survived by her daughter Crystal Ann Green of Arizona and a number of nieces and nephews.
