Arval Van Sr, 78, of Shawneetown, IL died Thursday September 17, 2026 at 9:35 am at the Eldorado Rehab and Healthcare Center. Memorial graveside services will be held Saturday September 26, 2026 at 12 noon at Hogan Cemetery. Reverend Michael Rushing will officiate. There will be no visitation, all family and friends should go directly to the cemetery. Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown, IL is assisting the family with the details.

Arval was born on May 9, 1948 in Drakesboro, KY to the late Virgil and Novella (Hafley) Van.

He married the former Anita Osbourne on April 12, 1968 and she preceded in death in December of 2018.

Arval worked many years building cabinets until his retirement. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his son: Arval Van, Jr of Shawneetown, IL; daughter: Carissa Newton of Newburgh, IN; 3 sisters: Virgie (Brian) Patton of Shawneetown, IL; Marlene Lynch of Omaha, IL and Joyce (Stanley) Weddell of Waverly, KY; 8 grandchildren: Casey, Tony, Cory, Chelsea, Alex, Tessa, Brittany and Braiden; several great grandchildren; sister in law: Mary Van of Shawneetown, IL and several nieces and nephews including a very special niece: Lois Poore of Shawneetown, IL

He was preceded in death by his parents: Virgil and Novella Van; wife: Anita Van; son: Billy Van; 4 sisters: Wilma Gobtop, Wanda Osbourne, Lois J. Patton and Opal Van; brother: Tildon Van and brother in law: Roy Lynch.
