Barbara J. Farris

Barbara J. Farris, age 86 of Ridgway, IL passed away at Ferrell Hospital on February 8, 2024, in Eldorado, IL.

Barbara was born March 21, 1937, in Eldorado, IL to Raymond and Mildred (Payne) Alvey. She was married to the late Bernard (Bernie) Farris on September 29, 1956, and he preceded her in death on July 19, 2009. Barbara was the high school secretary at Ridgway and Gallatin County Schools for 37 years. She was a member of the Ridgway United Methodist Church. Barbara was a St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed traveling. Barbara loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by four children, Keith (Carol) Farris, Kathy (Steve) Mathews, Jeanie (Ronnie) Miller, Jerry (Linda) Farris; twelve grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Katie, Kimberly, Kristina, Kara, Lee, Phillip, Linley, Jordan, Emily, Ashley; twenty-six great-grandchildren, 3 Step Grandchildren, Jake, Neil & Luke. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Royal Alvey, and John Ed Alvey; and three sisters, Vivian Urmanski, Ruth Ella Hayden, and Mildred Alvey.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am February 14, 2024, at Cox and Son Funeral Homes in Ridgway, IL. The service will be conducted by Rev. Thad Galloway. Burial will follow the service at Jackson Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
