Bernard W. Mills, age 97 of Ridgway, IL died on Friday, August 9, 2013 in the Harrisburg Medical Center. Bernard was born in Ridgway on May 29, 1916 to the late Mathew and Mary (Drone) Mills. Bernard served his country before retiring from the Air Force as Senior Master Sgt. He joined the service 1939 in the Army Aircorp which later became the Air Force. He retired in 1965 after more than 26 years and serving during World War II and Korea. He was a member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway and the Ridgway American Legion and VFW.
Bernard was a very patriotic person as the love of his country showed in his service. He had a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and was a very well read person. After retiring he still very active as Cattle rancher, loved to travel and had a passion for horses. Over the years he was always an outdoors person, gardening, hunting, fishing and just enjoying the gift of our earth.
Bernard is survived by Nephews, Ray Couser, Donnie Couser, Rick Mills, Matt Mills, Joe Mills and Jimmy Mills. Nieces, Sharon Mills Smith, Debbie Mills Sotis and Bernadine Mills Clifford. He was preceded in death by his 2 wives, Grace Mills and Wilma Daily Mills along with 4 brothers, George, Earl, Richard and James Mills and sisters, Alice Couser and Emily Mills.
Visitation for Bernard will be on Monday, August 12, 2013 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. His funeral mass will be on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the St. Patrick Chapel East of Ridgway with Fr. Steven Beatty celebrating. His interment will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Ridgway with full military rites.
