Bertha A Shofner

Bertha A Shofner, age 78 died peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at home in Sturgis, Ky. Bertha was born in Clay, KY on September 26, 1935 to the late Mike and Emma Lee (Simpson) Hartman. She was married to Frank Johns who preceded her in death. Bertha worked and lived in Shawneetown, IL for many years. She worked for many years at the Loretta Nursing Home as a CNA. She loved animals and had a pet donkey and dog that she was really close to. She loved to be outdoors, gardening, and enjoying nature. Bertha loved to read, go to church and visit with family and friends. She was always a very kind soul. She will be missed.

Bertha is survived by 1 son, Gary Johns of Sturgis, KY, 1 brother, Ernest Hartman of Freehold, NJ, and a sister Donna Leslie of Henderson, Ky. She was preceded also in death by, a daughter, Lisa Johns, a brother, Bobby Hartman and a step brother, Virgil Simpson.

Visitation for Bertha will be on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown, IL. Her funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Rev. Jack Hall will officiate and interment will follow at the Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis, KY.
