Betty L. Drone, age 85 longtime resident of Ridgway died unexpectandly on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Betty was born near Broughton, Il on June 5, 1928 to the late James and Lena (Hardesty) Poole. She married Marion ""Bud"" Drone on April 23, 1953 and he preceded her in death in 1996. Betty was a faithful member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church, the Altar Society and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella.
She will also be remembered working at the Owls Nest and the Village Boutique in Ridgway. She loved to travel and had been on many trips. She was very dedicated to her family and friends will always be remembered as a very kind soul. She was a good wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and will be missed by the community.
Betty is survived by her 4 daughters, Cindy (Mike) Awalt of Carmi, IL, Susan (Davd) Coker of Eldorado, IL, Trudy (Bill) Cannon of Grayson, GA and Mary Jane (Scott) Darnell of Cave In Rock, IL. 9 Grandchildren, Alisha (Russ) Moore, Austin Awalt, Adriana (Ethan) Aud, Samuel Coker, Matt Cannon, Abby Cannon, Dylan Kluge, Kayla Kluge, and Trystan Darnell. 1 Great Grandchild, Zachary Moore. 3 Sisters, Jo Maloney of Mt. Vernon, In, Ann Dunkel of Calif, and Vicky Grove of Virginia. She was also preceded in death by a sister Eileen Rice.
Visitation for Betty will be on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway. A prayer service for Betty will be said at 5:00 PM on Friday evening. Her funeral mass will be on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the St. Kateri Catholic Church, St. Mary's Chapel in Shawneetown starting at 10:00 AM with Fr. Steven Beatty as Celebrant. Her interment will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Ridgway .
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the St. Kateri Catholic Church building fund in her memory.
