Carl Edward Sturgal

Carl Edward Sturgal, age 74 of Carmi, IL died peacefully on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family after an extended illness. Carl was born on October 18, 1935 in Mt. Vernon, IN to the late Earl F. Sturgal and Vivian (Carr) Sturgal. He was a Korean War Veteran of the Navy. Carl married Judy Ledbetter on June 15, 1982 and she survives. Carl ran the Lantern Tavern in Carmi for years, and later was a self employed plumber until he retired. He was a 50 yr member of the American Legion in Carmi. He had also been a member of the VFW and Elks. Carl was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by the community.


Carl is survived by his wife Judy (Ledbetter) Sturgal of Carmi, 4 Sons, Eddie Sturgal of Texas, Jeff (Jane) Sturgal of Carmi, IL Carl Ray(Renea) Sturgal of Carmi, IL and Gregory (Sherry) Sturgal of Carmi, IL. 2 Daughters, Vonda Fern (Mike) Champion of Springerton, IL and Carla (Terry) Rush of Springerton, Il. 3 Brothers, Raymond (Ann) Sturgal of Arizona, Bill (Darlene) Sturgal of Arizona, and Don (Sharon) Sturgal of Carmi, IL, 1 Sister, Marilyn (Kenny) Staley of Mascoutah, Il , 18 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a great grandson.

Per Carl's request his body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at later date. In lieu of flowers you may make donations to your favorite charity or the family.
