Deon Holloway, born on August 28, 1948, in Old Shawneetown, Illinois, passed away on January 4, 2026, in Marissa, Illinois, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and devotion to family. He dedicated 36 years of his life as a coal miner for the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), demonstrating not only a remarkable work ethic but also a commitment to a profession that shaped the lives of many in the community.
Deon was a devoted husband to his wife, Theresa Holloway, and a loving father to his children: son, Randy Holloway, and daughter, Christie (Christopher) Daugherty. He was also a revered stepfather to Eric Hines and April (Josh)Hahn. Deon took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to his grandchildren: Chase (Danika), Casey, Carter Daugherty, and Emma (Jeff) Mulholland, as well as his step-grandchildren: Kaidence Hines, Bailey Hahn, and Elliott Hines, and great-grandchildren: Rowan and Reese Mulholland. His love for family was evident in everything he did, cherishing the moments spent together and creating lasting memories.
Deon is survived by his brother, Robert Holloway, along with several nieces and nephews who will undoubtedly remember him fondly. He is preceded in death by his father, Winford Holloway; mother, Edna (Greer) Holloway; and brothers: Jack Larkin, Terry, and Winford Holloway Jr.
Deon's life will be honored with visitation on January 8, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown, Illinois. A funeral service will follow the visitation, beginning at 12:00 PM, with burial immediately thereafter at Westwood Cemetery in Shawneetown at 1:00 PM.
His legacy of love for family and dedication to his work will always be remembered, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
