Donald L. Gossett, age 83, of Eldorado, IL passed on peacefully from this life at his home on October 27, 2022. Don was born in Ridgway, IL on February 13, 1939 to the late Roy and Pauline (Doerner) Gossett. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda (Sinagra) and many beloved uncles.
Don graduated from Ridgway High School and then furthered his education at Southern Illinois University obtaining a degree is Secondary Education. He went on to receive his Masters in Educational Leadership from Northern Illinois University and a Doctorate of Education from Loyola University.
He worked for many years as the Superintendent of Libertyville High School in Libertyville, IL before retiring in 1998. Don loved to be around his family and friends and especially enjoyed his time on the Golf course. He was very civic minded and actively involved in many clubs and organizations including the Illinois Association of School Administrators, Rotary Club, Growing with Grace Preschool at Grace Lutheran Church, Ferrell Hospital, and the 4 C’s Food Pantry, where he had served as President.
His real loves were for his family and the Lord. He had been a longtime member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Libertyville, IL before moving to Eldorado where he became a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He loved his family dearly and will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his two daughters, Amy (John) Bendall, Lindsey (Ian) Kazian, his beloved wife Linda (Dixon), his stepchildren Jamie (Lynn) Bryd, Ashley (Jeff) Greene and his 11 grandchildren, Evan, Elaina, Eric, Luke, Matthew, Easton, Ben, Bryant, Jackson, Hope and Faith.
Visitation for Don will be on Sunday, October 30, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Eldorado with a funeral service to immediately follow at the church with Pastor Randy Plunkett officiating.
Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to the 4C’s Food Pantry and envelopes will be available at the church. You may also leave a note of comfort to the family at www.coxandson.com
