Dora Drone

Dora P. “Dode” Drone, age 87, longtime Ridgway resident passed on this life August 13, 2020 in the Eldorado Nursing and Rehab Center.  Dode, as most knew her, was born in Texas City, IL on December 17, 1932 to the late Thomas and Katie (Maloney) Unthank.

On November 28, 1951 she married James Drone who preceded her in death in 2006.   In 2007 she married George Howerton and preceded her in 2012.  Dode worked for Jones Farm Store, Skaggs Drug Store but will mostly be remembered for her women’s clothing store she owned and operated for many years before retiring, the Owls Nest.  She enjoyed going to the Lake of Egypt, sewing, and being active in her community.  She worked for many years with Beauty pageant of Popcorn Days, American Cancer society, Ladies Auxiliary of the Ridgway American Legion.  She was an active member of the Altar Society in her church, St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway where she was a faithful member.

Dode is survived by her 3 sons, Randy (Kathy) Drone, Doug (Angie) Drone and Kevin (Rhonda) Drone all of Ridgway, daughter in law, Jan Drone of New Haven.  Grandchildren, Randi Lynn Vickery, Kyle (Melissa) Drone, Heath Drone, Brett (Kayce) Drone, Blake (Sarah) Drone, Jayla (Nick) Sisk, Ashley Escobar, Shawn Drown, Anthony (Lauren) Drone, Quinton, (Caitlin) Drone and Katelen Drone. Great Grandchildren, Jenna, Cade, Mia, Liam, Emma, Harrison, Jacie, Ashton, Nash, Emery, Ella and Griffin.  She was preceded in death also by a son, Vince Drone, and 2 sisters, Virginia Phelps and Amanda Wilson.

Visitation for Dode will be Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 9:00 AM to 10:30 aM.  Her funeral mass will follow at 11:00 AM at the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway with Fr. Steven Beatty and Fr. Christian Iwuagwu.  She will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Ridgway.
