Douglas S. Mattox, age 67, of Evansville, IN died on March 16, 2016 in the Deaconess Hospice Center in Evansville after an extended illness. Doug as most knew him was born on July 10, 1948 in Winterhaven, FL to the Dread Mattox and Rachel (Lafferty) Mattox who survives. On December 19, 1970 he married the love of his life, Cathy (Riley) Mattox formerly of Ridgway. Doug served his country honorably in the United States Army, retiring after almost 21 years. After retirement from the service he worked at Aztar Casino in Evansville as a dealer for about 15 years.

Doug was Catholic by faith, a member of the Mt. Vernon, IN American Legion and the Evansville VFW Post 1114. He loved to fish, follow the Chicago Bears, old cars especially Corvettes and spending time with his dogs. Doug was a good father, grandfather, husband, brother and friend and will be missed by many.

Doug is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cathy (Riley) Mattox of Evansville, IN, his mother, Rachel Mattox of Monticello, IL, a son Aaron (Corie) Mattox of Evansville, IN a daughter, Kimberly (Dennis) Moore of Mt. Vernon, IN, 5 grandchildren, Kevin Douglas Mattox, Brandon Montgomery, William Pate, Brooke Pate and Mathias Moore, a sister, Cynthia Huisinga of Monticello, IL. He was also preceded in death by a brother Dennis Mattox, and his in laws, Barney and Helen Riley.

Visitation for Doug will be on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A prayer service will be said at 4:00 PM. His funeral mass will be on Monday, March 21, 2016 at the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway starting at 10:00 AM. Fr. Steven Beatty will be celebrating Mass. Doug will be buried in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Ridgway with full military rites.

In lieu of flowers the family offers the following suggestions for donations made in his memory. American Lung Association, St. Kateri Building Fund, Posey County Indiana Pound Puppies or Humane Society.
