Evelyn Porter

Evelyn S. Porter, age 76 of Ridgway, IL, died peacefully in the Shawnee Rose Nursing Home in Harrisburg on Sunday, December 15, 2013. On February 25, 1937, Evelyn was born in New Haven to George and Helen (Cummings) Shepard. Evelyn was married on May 20, 1955 to the love of her life Charles Porter who preceded her in death. Evelyn and Charlie owned and operated Charlie's Hideaway in Old Shawneetown for many years before retiring. She loved to take walks, sing, and raise flowers. Her real love was her family, as she loved her children and grandchildren so much. Evelyn was a very kind soul with a smile for you when you saw her. She will be missed.

Evelyn is survived by 3 daughters, Lynn Boulds, Kim Tipton and Myra Willis all of Ridgway. 7 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. 3 brothers, George Shepard and Roy Shepard both of Norris City and Ray Shepard of Carmi, IL. 1 sisters, Frankie Reynolds of Illiopolis, IL She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, Wes Porter.

Visitation for Evelyn will be on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 11:00 AM to 1:00PM. A graveside service will immediately follow at the Union Ridge Cemetery near New Haven.
