Obituary

The village of Ridgway mourns the loss of Frederick J. Zirkelbach, better known by the community as Buzz. Buzz passed away on July 9, 2026 surrounded by loved ones, and leaving behind a legacy defined by resilience, adventure, and a deep love for the world around him.

Buzz was born August 6, 1964, to Judie Ilene "Monroe" Brown and the late Frederick Eugene Zirkelbach in Eldorado, a brother to two, Jeffrey Lee Zirkelbach and Joy Lynn (Zirkelbach) Brown. He leaves behind six step-siblings; Richard Brown, Michael Brown, Eric Brown, Kevin Pemberton, Kurt Pemberton, and Ilesha (Tate) Brugger. Buzz was also blessed to be an uncle to many nieces and nephews; Sarah and Taylor Fowler, Lacey Powell, Chase Brown, Ericka and Matthew Isaacs, and Ryan Zirkelbach.

Buzz was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Eugene Zirkelbach, as well as his grandparents, Reed Monroe & Hattie Monroe, and Jack Zirkelbach & Marry E. Zirkelbach. He also comes home to several aunts, and uncles who went before him—each remembered fondly by those who knew them.

A veteran to the United States Army, Buzz was known for his storytelling, his love of the outdoors, and the easy warmth he brought to every conversation. Whether tending his garden, fishing at sunrise, hunting in the quiet woods, or adding a new arrowhead to his rock collection, he lived life with curiosity and appreciation for the land he called home. Friends and family will remember him for his humor, his generosity, and the way he made people feel welcome.

Entrusted to Cox and Son Funeral Home, a memorial service will be held for the public at 11:00am to 1:00pm at 209 S Jarrell St, Ridgway, IL 62979, followed by a private graveside service for close friends and family.
