Gail Marie (Stanelle) Wenzel

Gail Marie Stanelle Wenzel, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, returned to her Heavenly home on Saturday, May 13, 2023. Born to Dr. Wilbur Frank Stanelle and Ronita Ruth Osby Stanelle on November 25, 1949; Gail’s life was a rich tapestry of love, dedication, and faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved brother Michael Frank Stanelle, her cherished sister Sandra Stanelle Butts, and her High School Sweetheart and Loving Husband of 50 years, David Allen Wenzel.
Gail is survived by her beloved brother Gregory “Greg” Thomas Stanelle and his wife, Gail’s cherished friend, Becky Stanelle as well as another sister-in-law, Mealanie Stanelle. Gail left behind her treasured daughter, Marion Ruth Marshall and husband Patrick James Marshall. Her legacy carries forward with her cherished grandchildren, Samuel Patrick Marshall, his wife Katonna Nichole Marshall, Granddaughter Katie Gail Marshall, and her husband Victor D Melendez Gonzalez.  Gail is also survived by her three precious great-grandchildren, Alijah Eugene Chapman (Marshall), Novah Skylynn Legg (Marshall) and Bellamy Ray James Marshall.  Gail will also be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews, large extended family well as a huge network of close personal friends.
Gail's spirit was as vibrant and colorful as the flowers she adored. A passionate gardener, a creative crafter and card maker, as well as a gifted decorator; she spread beauty, joy and love of her Lord and Savior wherever she went. Gail devoted 30 years of her life to retail sales, making a significant impact at Harmons and JC Penny, where she eventually retired from her hard-won management position.
In honor of Gail and in lieu of flowers; donations may be made to her favorite charities; The ASPCA or St. Jude’s.  You may also choose to plant a flower, craft a heartfelt card, or extend a kindness to someone in need. These acts of love and creativity will be a fitting tribute to a woman who devoted her life to spreading beauty and joy.
Gail's life will be celebrated on May 19, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Shawneetown, IL, located at 590 Lincoln Avenue. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, with The Memorial Service taking place at 1:00 PM.  The Procession and Graveside Service will take place immediately after. Services will be followed by a meal at and provided by members of The First Baptist Church, with all attendees invited and welcome.  Interment will take place at Westwood Cemetery.  Friends, family, and all whose lives were touched by Gail's extraordinary spirit are warmly invited to join her family in remembering her life
