George E. Howerton, age 81 of Ridgway formerly of New Burnside, passed on this life, Friday March 9, 2012 in the Ridgway Rehabilitation Center. George had been fighting a sickness for some time. George was born in Hot Springs, SD on August 15, 1930 to the late Roy Howerton and Fredybelle (Shultz) Howerton. George worked for over 50 years in the Pharmaceutical business working for with Mckesson and Robbins, Kolb Brothers Drug Co. and the Charles Leich Drug Company for most of his career. He was a good Christian man and was a member of the Reynoldsburg Church. George was a very kind and considerate person and always had a smile and kind word. He loved the outdoors and gardening. He worked very hard from a small boy delivering newspapers until his retirement with his career. He was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed. George is survived by his wife Dora ""Dode Drone"" Howerton whom he married in 2007. Sons, Mike (Becky) Howerton of Osh Kosh, WI, Tom Howerton of Herrin, IL. Daughters, Jan Corn of Eldorado, IL, Patty Howerton & companion Kathy Evans of Indianapolis, IN and Joyce (Buddy) Lewis of Paducah,KY. 7 Grandchildren along with 3 Step Sons, Randy (Kathy) Drone , Doug (Angie) Drone and Kevin (Rhonda) Drone all of Ridgway. 1 Son in Law, Bill Waller of Macedonia, IL and 1 Daughter in law, Jan Drone of New Haven, IL. 11 Step Grandchildren and 6 Step Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Waller and a step son, Vince Drone. Funeral for George will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway starting at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends for viewing prior to the funeral starting at 11:00 AM. Fr. Steven Beatty will officiate and interment will follow in the Creal Springs Cemetery in Creal Springs, IL. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to either the Ridgway Golden Circle, or the VNA of Eldorado, envelopes will be available.
