George Shepard, Jr

George Shepard Jr. age 83 of Norris City, IL passed away April 1, 2023.  Anyone who knew George knows that he loved New Haven where he was born and raised.  He was born on September 28, 1939 to the late George and Helen Shepard.  He moved from New Haven in May of 1969 when he married the love of his life, Nellie (Hayes) Shepard. 

George was a Boilermaker most of his career until he retired in 2000.  He was a Master Mason, he joined the New Haven Masonic Lodge in 1977 and later joined Norris City and Enfield Masonic Lodges.   George was happiest when he was busy, loved being outside and watching the NBA. 

George is survived by his wife, Nellie (Hayes) Shepard, a daughter Sandy (Brad) Payne, two sons George (Melissa) Shepard and Jack Shepard, granddaughters, Alyssa (Gabe) Oglesby, Krysta (Dustin) Mitchell, Madelyn Shepard, Adyson Shepard, a grandson Holden Shepard and a great grandson Kai Oglesby.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Roy Shepard, Frankie Reynolds, Evelyn Porter and Ray Shepard. 

Visitation for George will be Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 2:00 PM TO 4:00 PM at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in New Haven.  His funeral service will start at 4:00 PM with burial following at Union Ridge Cemetery.
