Gerama J Bradley

Gerama J. (Hinson) Bradley, 92, of Junction, IL passed away Friday, March 25, 2016 at the Eldorado Rehab and Health Care.

Gerama was born in Saline Mines, IL, on October 29, 1923, to the late William Freeman and Nora Katherine (Kate) Cutrell Hinson.

She attended Saline Mines Grade School and graduated with the class of 42 from Shawneetown High School. She married Walter Ferrell Bradley of Junction on December 22, 1941. When Ferrell went to the Army in 1942, she moved to East Alton to live with her brother Elgin and family. While there she worked at Western Cartridge Company, making cartridges, and Alton Box Board, making bomb rings, doing her part for the war effort much like a Rosie the Riveter.

After the war her father and brother helped Ferrell and Gerama build a home in Junction where they lived their entire lives and raised three children. After their youngest started school, Gerama pursued a career as a hair stylist, which she practiced for many years. She expressed her sense of creativity whether she was styling hair or baking cakes or putting together costumes for Halloween or church skits. Gerama was an active member of the Junction Missionary Baptist Church all her life.

Gerama is survived by a daughter, Anne Utter of Harrisburg, IL, 2 sons, Lan & Rosalie (Rich) Bradley of Newburgh, IN, and Ron and Rose (Myers) Bradley of Ashmore. She has five grandchildren, Kate (Thad) Utter Ellet of Herrin, IL, Erin Bradley and husband Jason Kinkle of Nashville, TN, Kyle (Tessa Memmer) Bradley of Evansville, IN and Callie & Elizabeth Bradley of Nashville, TN, six great grandchildren, Grant and Miles Ellet, Adrian and Lilah Kinkle, and Ren and Eleanor Bradley.

In addition to her husband and parents, Gerama was preceded in death by a brother, Elgin Hinson, and three sisters, Mamie Glover, Hazel Hall, and Ruby Besaw Middleton.

Visitation for Gerama will be April 3, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown. Her funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home with Rev. Roy Dale Orr and Curtis Bradley officiating. Her burial will take place in Westwood Cemetery next to her husband.
