Herman E. Dortch

Herman E. Dortch, age 80, lifelong resident of Shawneetown in the Saline Mine area, died on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Herman was born in the Saline Mine area on April 12, 1933 to the late Dave and Nellie (Maynard) Dortch. On April 25, 1952 he married Ioma (Stilts) Dortch. His faith was Church of God. He had worked in the Coal mines and farmed. He loved to fly a airplane, work with horses, but mostly be around his grandchildren and other kids. He was a member of the UMWA and the Illinois Horsemans Assoc. Herman was a good husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He will be missed.

Herman is survived by his wife, Ioma of Shawneetown, 3 sons, David (Joyce) Dortch, of Shawneetown, Dennis (Ruth) Dortch of Junction and Danny Dortch of Browns, IL and 2 daughters, Nellie (Terry) Rigsby, of Shawneetown, Sharon (Billy) Winters of Marion Ky and Ella Patton of Shawneetown whom they raised.
20 Grandchildren, 31 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great Grandchild. A brother, John Dortch, 2 sisters, Ruby Madden and Marilyn Hopson.

Visitation for Herman will be on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. His funeral will be on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the funeral home starting at 11:00 AM. Rev. Harold Miller will officiate and interment will follow at the Westwood cemetery.
