Herschel A. Lane, age 82, lifelong Gallatin County resident passed on this life, November 12, 2022 at his home in Junction, IL Herschel was born on October 30, 1940 in Gallatin County to the late James Alfred and Eula May (Miles) Lane.  In 1962 he married Mary (McCluskey) Lane who survives.

Herschel served his country in the Unites States Army.  He worked for many years as a Coal Miner then ran a Tire shop at the Crossroads for many years.  He loved to play Golf especially at Hardin County and will be remembered as an uncanny putter.  His family says he was a great debater, or maybe you couldn’t win an argument with him.  A storyteller, rule maker, and would always kid you when he talked to you.  His love for his children and grandchildren was his life though. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed.

Herschel is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Lane of Junction, 2 daughters, Djuana (Scott) Vinyard of Shawneetown, and Tina (Mark) Beard of Eddyville, KY and 1 son, Randy Lane of Morganfield, KY.   Grandchildren, Peyton Lane, Logan Vinyard, Shana (Blake) Luckett, Jordan (Trent) Bullman, Brock Willmes, Colten Breneman and Klarissa (Dalton) Cahoun.  5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Virginia (Jerry) Mosby and Linda (Carroll) Berlin.  He is preceded in death by 6 brothers, Randall, Luther, James, Kenneth, Charles and Donald and 3 sisters, Eva Lane, Ina Riden and Nina Mathews

Visitation for Herschel will be on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  His funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Steve Hunt officiating.  His interment will be in Hill Cemetery on the Karbers Ridge Blacktop with military rites.
