Iona Marie Pettyjohn Schexnayder

Iona Marie (Pettyjohn) Schexnayder, age 64 of Carmi, IL but formerly of New Haven, IL died peacefully in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, In on Friday, February 06, 2015. Marie was born in New Haven on April 22, 1950 to the late Ernest and Irene (Smith) Pettyjohn. She was a homemaker and enjoyed her family and friends. She loved camping and fishing, crossword puzzles and reading. She had a wonderful and witty sense of humor loving to always joke around. She played bingo, loved spiritual music and was a very happy person and loved life. She will be missed.

Marie is survived by her 2 sons, Carl & Rhesa Abbott of New Haven, Rodney and Rachel Abbott of Boonville, IN and a daughter Tracy Cartwright of Evansville, IN, her brother Daniel Pettyjohn of Texas, 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Saxton Cartwright, her loving companion, Butch Johnson, a sister, Vernalene Pettyjohn, A½ sister, Viola Smith, and A½ brother, Edwin Kent.

Visitation for Marie will be on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in New Haven from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Her funeral will be on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the funeral home starting at 1:30 PM with Rev. Bobby Murray officiating. Her interment will follow at the Union Ridge Cemetery near New Haven, Il.
