Jack Lee Larkin, 72 of Shawneetown, passed away at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, in his home, surrounded by his family.

Jack was born Oct. 5, 1939, to Edna Lucille Greer and Emmett Larkin. He graduated from Shawneetown High School in 1957. He served in the United States Army and United States Navy, aboard the USS John A. Bole (DD-755). He was also a member of the Du Quoin Masonic Lodge No. 234.

Jack attended Linotype printing school in English, Ind. He worked at the Du Quoin newspaper and The Carmi Times from 1960-64. He worked at the Daily Herald Newspaper (Paddock Publications) in Arlington Heights from 1965 to 1981 in the production department. Jack worked at the Daily Register in Harrisburg as the production manager from 1982 to 2002. Jack also owned and operated The Cabin Tavern in Shawneetown from 1981 to 2004.

Jack spent his retirement doing part-time security work at the Willow Lake Mine in Equality. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family and friends.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Nancy Larkin; three daughters, Hope Castillo of Loves Park, Vicki Harness of Owensboro, Ky. and Lisa (David) Lyon of Harrisburg; two sons, Kevin (Lisa) Larkin of Lake in the Hills and James ""Bo"" Shortt of Chocowinity, N.C.; three brothers, Deon (Teri) Holloway of Marissa, Terry Holloway of Shawneetown and Robert Holloway of Shawneetown; eight grandchildren, Courtney Larkin, Jackson Larkin, Jody Harness, Brooke Crane, Madison Medley, Lydia Lyon, Chloe Lyon and Blake Pumphrey; two great-grandchildren, Phoenix Womick and Kenser Harness; two nieces, Christie (Chris) Daugherty and Katie Hall; and four nephews, Robbie Holloway, Randy Holloway, David Holloway and Zach Holloway.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitation will be at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown with the Rev. Barry Steed and the Rev. Ronnie Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Westwood Cemetery in Shawnnetown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VNA Hospice of Eldorado and Equality Methodist Church.
