James "Catfish" Curry

James L.  “Catfish” Curry, age 64, of Stonefort, IL in Pope County passed on this life peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after an extended illness.  Jim was born in Eldorado, IL on June 3, 1958 to the late William and Joann (Brazier) Curry.  He was married to the former Judy (Turner) Curry and they had been together for over 18 years.

Catfish grew up around Shawneetown and graduated from the Shawneetown High School in 1977.  He was a retired Environmentalist Specialist.  He was well known in Southern Illinois as avid Horseman and enjoyed hunting and working in the hayfields.  He was an Equine adjuster and worked many years in the quarter horse racing industry.  He loved to cook outdoors on open fires and had catered many events.  Catfish was a good man with a good heart and will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Curry of Stonefort, a daughter, Leslie (Justin) Ferrell of Galatia, 2 sons, Logan (Tami) Curry of Harrisburg and Joseph Curry of Harrisburg. Grandchildren, Laney Jo Adams, Sofia, Olivia Jo, and James Layne.  He is also survived by brothers, Mic Curry of Thomasboro, IL, Joe (Sandy) Curry of Phillipi, WV, Bill (Paula) Curry of Shawneetown and Charlie (Mary Ann) Curry of Eldorado.  He is also preceded by his parents, 2 brothers, Rodney and Paul Curry and a sister in law, Sheila Curry.

Visitation for Catfish will be on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown from 12 Noon to 2:00 PM. His funeral will immediately follow at the funeral home with his family conducting the service.  Interment will follow at the Reid Cemetery South of Shawneetown. 

Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  You may also leave a note of comfort or obtain other memorials at www.coxandson.com
