James ""Jim"" Stevens

James ""Jim"" Stevens

James ""Jim"" Stevens, age 68, of Knoxville, TN but formerly of New Haven died Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in Knoxville. Jim as most knew him was born in New Haven on August 15, 1941 to the late Hershel and Beulah (Downen) Stevens. Jim attended grade school in New Haven and graduated from Ridgway High School. Jim was married to Joni Stevens first and she preceded him in death in 2004, he was now married to Martha Stevens who survives. Jim was always very active especially in his work and politics. He was retired from the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers working at B&W in Mt. Vernon, In and later being a Union Rep for the Boilermakers. Jim was former Democrat Chairman of Gallatin County, had been the Mayor of New Haven, member of the Masonic Lodge, and was chosen as Citizen of the Year in New Haven. He loved to spend time in New Haven and at his river camp. Jim was always spending time with friends and family. He was a good husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, and friend, Jim will be missed by the community.

Jim is survived by, his wife Martha of Knoxville, Tn, 2 sons - Mark (Sheri) Stevens of Carmi, Il, Michael ""Squeak"" (Gina) Stevens of Mt. Vernon, IN, 1 daughter - Christy Bolin of Carmi, Il, 1 step daughter - Courtney Knight of Knoxville, TN, 3 sisters - Patsy (Doby) Browning of New Haven, Margie (Chris) Hale of New Haven and Peggy (Tim) Belford of Harrisburg, Il, 3 brothers - Kenny (JoAnn) Stevens of Mt. Vernon, IN, Rick (Cheryl) Stevens of Hisperia, CA and Danny (Melody) Stevens of West Frankfort, IL., 4 Grandchildren - Justin Stevens, Lauren Bolin, Cory Stevens, and James Christian Rhein Stevens and 1 Great Grandchild - Addison Elise Bolin. Special brother in law, Bill Balsky and special sister in law, Margie Fromm. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and 2 brothers, Carl and Mike.

Visitation for Jim will be on Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in New Haven from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral for Jim will be on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Keith Moore officiating. Interment will be in the Union Ridge Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to the White County relay for Life.
