James A. “Jim” Wood, age 86, longtime New Haven resident, passed on this life, September 20, 2020 in Ferrell Hospital surrounded by his family. Jim was born in White County, IL northeast of New Haven on December 26, 1933 to the late Jake R. and Lora (Goforth) Wood. On April 16, 1954 he married Grace E. (Boehringer) Wood who survives.
Jim served his country in the Unites States Army. He was a retired welder and boilermaker. He was a member of the New Haven Presbyterian church, the New Haven American Legion and Boilermakers union. He loved to read and was always so kind. Jim will be really remembered as one of the best fishermen in the area. From March to November he was on the River almost every day.
Jim is survived by his wife Grace of New Haven, a brother Ted Wood of Carmi, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death also by 4 sisters, Opal Cox, Jean Hale, Sue Mills and Zola Myers and 2 brothers Otis and Don Wood
Graveside service for Jim will be on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 starting at 2:00 PM at the White County Memorial Garden Cemetery near Carmi. Rev. Bud Peyton will preside. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery
Memorial contributions can be made to the New Haven Presbyterian church or the charity of choice in memory of Jim.
