Jerry Rigsby

September 26, 1962 — March 19, 2021

Jerry Dean Rigsby, age 58, of Shawneetown, IL passed from this life on March 19, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family, friends and pets by his side.  Jerry had been privately battling cancer for the last year and a half of his life.

Jerry started working on the family farm at age 12.  He continued farming until he began his 36-year career as a strip miner. He ran heavy equipment and was often bragged upon as being the top production operator. He was well known in the coal industry and developed many lifelong friendships with his fellow workers.

In his spare time, Jerry loved to be outdoors enjoying fishing, hunting, gardening in the summer, attending St. Louis Cardinals games, and spending time with his wife, family, and his labs.  He especially loved his role as a grandpa.  His granddaughter, Klaire, was his pride and joy as he would say.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Mary Ann (Fuller) Rigsby. He will be sadly missed and survived by his wife, Monica of 37 years; son, Jereme Rigsby; daughter, Tierney Rigsby; granddaughter, Klaire Rigsby; sister, Tona Rigsby; mother-in-law, Helen Powell, as well as aunts, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and special members of the family, Brittany and Karson Fulkerson.

A memorial service for Jerry will be on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown at 2:00 PM.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 12:30 PM.

Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.  You may leave a note of comfort to the family at www.coxandson.com
