John Rider

John Walter Rider, lifelong resident of Ridgway, IL, better known as JW, passed away on June 10, 2024, in Ridgway, IL, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 3, 1932, in Shawneetown IL, to the late Sherman E. & Blanche (Dillard) Rider. 

JW led a life full of joy and meaning, finding true happiness in the company of his family and friends. vibrant personality shone brightly through his love for hunting, working with horses, farming. JW worked at FS for several years delivering fuel in the area.  JW also dedicated his time to the Masonic Service, where he selflessly served others through his commitment to the community.

He is survived by his daughters Carol (Lindell) Bohnhoff and Lois Rider Lynch, sister Judy (Butch) Morse, Sister in Law Flora Rider. JW is survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who meant the world to him.

JW is preceded in death by his parents Sherman & Blanche Rider, wife Joyce (Hopson) Rider, brother Sherman Rider, brother in law, Bill Mortis, sisters, Donna Mortis, and Betty Shockley, and his sons Michael Rider & Bobby Rider 

Visitation for JW will be Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon First Baptist Church in Ridgway, IL. Funeral service will immediately follow at Noon. Interment will follow the service at Westwood Cemetery in Shawneetown, IL.
