Lula Mabel Smith

Lula Mabel Smith, age 86 of Golconda, IL, died Monday, August 19, 2013 at her home in the Twin Oaks assisted living. Lula was born in Benton, Il on September 12, 1926 to the late Artie and Lula Mae (Sadler) Shockley. She was a Presbyterian by faith. On November 4, 2000 she married her high school sweetheart, Darce Smith. Lula was retired from the Glove factory and the Ben Franklin store. Her real love was being a homemaker. She loved her family very much, and always enjoyed playing games with the little ones, along with being known for her very good homemade bread. In her later years her and Darce traveled which they both enjoyed. She was a loving wife, wonderful sister, aunt and friend.

Lula is survived by her husband, Darce Smith of Golconda, 2 step sons, George and wife Robbie Smith of Golconda, Eddie and wife Debbie Smith of Golconda, 3 Step Daughters, Connie Gibbs of Golconda, Sharon and husband Augusta Godfrey of Florida, and Sheila and husband Patrick Underwood of Kentucky. 12 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. 2 Nieces, Rae Street of Metropolis and Kim & Lee Rush of Alabama. Many great and great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister Lydia Lou and J.E. Saylors and a niece Rita Kay Saylors.

Visitation for Lula will be on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Golconda. Her funeral service will be on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Church starting at 2:00 PM. Rev. Roy Hughes will officiate and Interment will follow at the IOOF cemetery in Golconda.
