Mary Lee Buckman, age 78 lifelong Gallatin County resident, passed on this life peacefully, surrounded by her family in her home in Ridgway, on Sunday, November 22, 2020. Mary Lee was born in Shawneetown, IL on February 14, 1942 to the late Omar and Bertha (Watkins) Barger. She was married to the love of her life Kenneth Buckman on February 8, 1960 and preceded her in death this year.
Mary Lee has tremendous work ethic and, in her life, worked in restaurants, Blevins Popcorn Plant, but will be remembered mostly in the School system and the American Legion in Ridgway and New Haven. She worked for the Ridgway and Gallatin County School system for 32 years as a custodian but mostly remembered for her many years of driving the bus (always having treats for her riders). She was known for uncanny way to fry tenderloins with Pee Wee at the Ridgway Legion and then alongside her husband Kenneth operating the New Haven legion for many years too. In her limited spare time, she enjoyed Bingo, Fishing, being involved in local politics but mostly enjoying her children and grandchildren, whom she loved so dearly. She was a member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway. She was wonderful wife, loving mother, beloved MawMaw, sister and friend who will be missed by many.
Mary Lee is survived her children, Michael “Skipper” Buckman, Terri Lynn (Jack) Stallings, Mary Jo (Junior) Gibbs. 7 Grandchildren, Trae (Jamie) Buckman, Jonathan Buckman, Ashley (Jason) Haton, Magan (Ryan) Lydick, Terra (Jeremy) Abell, Jacob (Halee) Buckman and Deidra (Jonathan) Hewitt. Great Grandchildren, Jaxson, Jaelynn, Ella, Aubree, Cassidy and Norah. Sisters, Sherri and Bill Rigsby and Donna (Raymond) Berlin, and a brother Bobby Barger. Daughter in law, Tammy Spahr, and lifelong friend, Frances Staten. She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenny Lee Buckman and a grandson, Joseph Stanley Buckman. Visitation for Mary Lee will be on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM, her funeral mass will follow at 1:00 PM at the St. Kateri Catholic Church with Fr. Steven Beatty officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in St. Joseph Cemetery in Ridgway.
Memorial contributions can be made to any of the Gallatin County School Charities in her memory, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
