Mary Ann Evans

Mary Ann Evans, age 83, of Shawneetown, Illinois, passed peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.  Mary Ann was born on January 19, 1939 in Harrisburg, IL.  She was the daughter of the late John and Nellie (Sakovich) Parish.  She married Darrell Evans on August 10, 1957.  They were married for 65 years.

Mary Ann was a School Teacher for 35 years at Tunnel Hill, Shawneetown and Gallatin County Schools.  She was a talented violinist and pianist.   She played the piano in church all of her life.  Mary Ann attended the Calvary’s Promise Church in Shawneetown.

Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband, Darrell of Shawneetown, her daughter, Cheri (Donnie) Downen of Ridgway and her son Alan (Nickie) Evans of New Haven.  She is also survived her grandchildren, Jordan Evans, Cody Downen, Cory Evans, and Erin Gmerek, her great grandchildren, Asa and Austin Evans, Jeff, Alan and Travis Gmerek, her sister, Barbara Dale of Ridgway and many nieces and nephews.  Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Jim and Richard Parish, a brother in law, David Dale and sister in law, Judy Parish.

Graveside services for Mary Ann will be on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Union Ridge Cemetery near New Haven starting at 10:30 AM.  Rev. Buddy Hubbard will officiate.  Those attending should go directly to the cemetery.
