Mary Jo Rister, age 78, lifelong resident of Shawneetown passed away suddenly, Monday, February 11, 2008 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Mary Jo was born near Junction, IL on July 26, 1929 to the late Nathaniel and Nigel (Zinn) Moore.
On October 17, 1947 she was married to Robert ""Bob"" Rister. Mary Jo, Mommy Jo, or MaMaw as some of the family called her was a devoted Christian serving the Lord as a member of the United Methodist church in Shawneetown. She was also a member of the Methodist Women's Society. Mary Jo was good wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her life was centered around her family especially being a grandmother. She enjoyed reading, family and friends and always had a smile for you.
Mary Jo is survived by: Husband, Bob Rister of Shawneetown, Daughter, Judy (Don) Evrard of Harrisburg, IL, Daughter, Bonnie Mahan of Harrisburg, Il., Son, Scott (Patty) Rister of Mesa, AZ., Timothy J. (Elisa) Rister of Tuscon, AZ, Grandchildren, Dana (Phillip) Hess, Corey Evrard, Jason Rister, Robi Mahan, Reiana Mahan, Tonya Rister, Toshia Rister, Trina Rister and 1 future great grandchild, Brother, John Charles (Patty) Moore of Harrisburg, IL. She is also survived by a special Aunt, Rhoda Moore and Brother and Sister In Law, Bill and Mickey Rister and 2 very special friends, Mary McGuire and Norma Hocevar.
She was preceded in death by an infant Grandchild.
Services for Mary Jo will be, Visitation, Thursday, February 14, 2008 after 4 PM at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown, Funeral will be Friday, February 15, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown with Pastor Cheri Wilkerson officiating and burial in the Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.
In Lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to the United Methodist Church in Shawneetown.
