Mt. Vernon

Mary Agnes Zampino, nee Pritchard, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Mt Vernon Health Care Center in Mount Vernon, IL. Born on May 24, 1937, in a Red Cross tent in Shawneetown, IL, amidst the Great Flood of 1937, Mary was a beacon of resilience and strength. Mary was the cherished daughter of the late Vernon and Pearl (Edwards) Pritchard, and the only sister among seven siblings. She held a special bond with her youngest brother, Billy, whom she cared for with immense love and dedication.

With a long career as an office administrator, she retired as the Director of the Golden Circle in Shawneetown. A devoted mother, doting grandmother, and loving sister, Mary's life was a testament to her unwavering love for her family. Her career as an office administrator was marked by her commitment and diligence, culminating in her role as the Director of the Golden Circle in Shawneetown, from where she retired. Mary’s life outside of work was equally rich and rewarding. She found joy in spoiling her grandchildren, lending her voice to the church choir, tracing her family roots through genealogy, and tending to her garden.

Mary’s legacy lives on through her two children, Pamela Fenley of Louisville, KY, and Albert Zampino, Jr (Joanne) of Nashville, TN, and her grandchildren Elysia Swigart, Andrew Swigart (Sara), and Vincent Zampino. She was reunited in death with her beloved husband, Albert Zampino Sr, her parents, and her six brothers: Leon, Bert, Norman, David, Leonard, and William Pritchard.

Visitation for Mary will be held Monday, April 1, 2024, at Cox & Son Funeral Home, Shawneetown, IL from 12:00-1:00 PM. Internment will follow at Hogan Cemetery in Shawneetown, IL.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mt Vernon Health Care and its dedicated staff for their unwavering support and compassionate care for Mary.
