Ralph L. Palmer, 64 of Equality, IL but longtime resident of the Shawneetown area, passed on peacefully, Saturday, February 02, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Ralph was born in Flint, MI to the late Ed & Maxine (Capeheart) Palmer. He served his country in the Army during Vietnam where he spent over a year. On June 12, 1970 he married the love of his life, Joyce (Steele) who survives. Ralph worked most of his life in the woods, as he was a timber logger for many years before retiring. He had also built houses. Ralph loved to hunt, fish, and cook and be outside, but mostly he loved to be around his grandchildren. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be greatly missed.

Ralph is survived by his wife Joyce (Steele) Palmer of Equality, a son, Ralph Jr., of Shawneetown, 2 daughters, Rebecca (Dave) Macintosh of Harrisburg and Rhonda (Keith) Hawkins of Omaha. Grandchildren, Deanna Hosick, Jamie Macintosh, Rochelle Hawkins, Michael Macintosh, and Tiffany Hawkins, he is also survived by 2 sisters, Mary(Cookie)/Dean Pritchett of Ridgway and Vickie (Wayne) Hardin of Junction and a brother Jerry Palmer of Washington, DC. He is also preceded by a brother, Harold Palmer.

Visitation for Ralph will be on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown. Funeral will be on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown starting at 11:00 AM. Rev. Dean West will officiate and interment will follow at the Hogan Cemetery south of Shawneetown will full military rites.
