Rita C. Brown, age 56 of Stonefort but formerly of Ridgway, passed on peacefully in the Paducah Baptist Health Hospital, Tuesday, July 18, 2017 surrounded by her family.  Rita was born on April 18, 1961 to the late Vincent & Louise (Abell) Rider.

Rita has worked most of her life for Banterra Bank, in August it would have been 32 years.  She was a member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway.  Rita was kind hearted, with always having something good to say about everyone. She was raised on a farm East of Ridgway in the Pond Settlement community where she was taught her work ethic, patience and kindness she had for everyone.  She loved to crochet and especially loved her animals.  Her companion for over 25 years, Gene Joiner was her love and they enjoyed many years together, especially BBQ catering many events throughout Southern Illinois.  She was a good mother, companion, grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed by many.

Rita is survived by her companion, Gene Joiner of Stonefort, IL, her son Scott (Cory) Brown, Jr of Liberty, MO, Siblings, Delores Scherrer of Shawneetown, Aggie (Jerry) Patton of Shawneetown, Charles (Cindy) Rider of St. Louis, MO, Tom (Barbara) Rider of Florida,  Jane (Jeff) Whiting of Galatia, IL, Tony Rider of Ridgway, and Susie (Greg) Huson of Virginia.  She is also survived by grandchildren: Stella and Jameson Brown.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother James Rider.

Visitation for Rita will be on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service immediately following.  Her funeral Mass will be on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway at 10:00 AM.  Fr. Steven Beatty will celebrate mass and her interment will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery east of Ridgway.
