Robert McGuire

Robert J “Bob” McGuire, born May 29, 1933, to the late John C and Pauline (Drone) McGuire, passed from this life peacefully on January 19, 2024, at Ascension St Vincent hospital on their comfort care/hospice floor. He married the love of his life Judith Ann Rider on June 5, 1957.

He served in the United States Army for two years, and returned to the family farm joining with his father John C, eventually taking over until his retirement in 1999. Was a lifelong member of St Patrick & St. Kateri Catholic Church, Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1581 (past Grand Knight) and Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly 232 (Charter member), Life member of American Legion Post 596, Served over 37 years as USDA-FSA county committee member, multiple terms as Ridgway Township Supervisor, Past Ridgway Popcorn Board President, multiple terms serving as a member of both the Ridgway and Gallatin County School Board.  Bob also served as Trustee of St Patrick’s Church, Custodian of St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery for over 50 years. Bob was also well known for making excellent homemade wine.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Judith, 3 sons; Mike (Tracy), Steve (Kendra), and Kevin, 7 grandchildren Marissa (Josh) Howard, Heather (fiancé Sam Soto), Thomas (Lindsay), Jonathan (Victoria), Wesley (Laura), Zachary (Hailee), Kaylee, 4 great-grandchildren, Kenton, Scott, Ender Howard, and Jax McGuire, 2 brothers Chuck and Fred McGuire.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Rebecca Ann, father John C, mother Pauline, and 2 sisters; Sr. Kathleen and Carol Lawler.

Visitation for Bob will be Tuesday, January 23, 2024,at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway, IL, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Prayer Service & K.C. Service will be held at 3:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Kateri Catholic Church, Ridgway, IL. Internment will immediately follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Ridgway, IL.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Patrick Cemetery.
