Ryley Renee McLaughlin, lovingly known as “Ryley Roo,” age 22, gained her wings on December 31, 2025, in New Haven, Illinois. Born on January 28, 2003, in San Diego, California, to Bret and Deborah McLaughlin, Ryley came into this world a fighter and a survivor. At just 2 pounds 10 ounces and 13 inches long, she showed from the very beginning the incredible strength and determination that would define her life.
Ryley had the kindest heart, the most selfless soul, and a fierce determination that never wavered. She loved unconditionally—whether it was her family, her animals, or a stranger—and she had a way of making everyone feel loved, accepted, and seen. Despite facing many obstacles in her short 22 years, Ryley persevered with grace and courage, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
She cherished meaningful conversations and could always make others laugh and smile with her quick wit and playful sarcasm. Ryley especially loved spending time with her animals and adored her nieces and nephews, who brought her immense joy. Her infectious smile and huge heart filled with love will forever be remembered.
Ryley is survived by her loving parents, Bret and Deborah McLaughlin, her siblings;
Tucker (Heather) Bowyer, Kristina (Justin Schackart) McGaha, Sarah (Jonathan) Berry, Brianne (Robbie) Day, Breanna Pena, Taylor Bowyer, and Andrew (Tori Woods) Steffensmeier. Many nieces and nephews; Calli, Isla, Zoe, Sheldon, Noah, Scarlett, Juliett, Brett, Kensey, Konley, Kaysley, Madden, Isabella, Gabriella, Aubriella, Clara, Caden, Ethan, Kara, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her Maternal Grandparents, Daniel and Sharon Shearer, and Paternal Grandmother Catherine (Johnny) Gleason.
Ryley returning home to Heaven has left a huge hole in our hearts, and we have been forever changed by her life. Yet we find comfort in knowing she is free of pain, at peace, and now the angel in Heaven as she was on Earth. Our sweet girl was richly blessed, and in the short time she spent on this earth, she blessed—and continues to bless—countless others. She is deeply loved, will be forever missed, and we hold fast to the hope that one day we will be reunited with her again.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Thank you to all for your love, words, prayers, and support during this time.
