We are honored to share the obituary for our dear Friend Scott Rister formerly of Shawneetown

On Sunday, October 9, 2022, Scott (Scotty) M. Rister, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and nino, passed away at age 67. He was born on March 9, 1955, in Shawneetown, IL, to Robert and Mary Jo Rister. He began a career in law enforcement at the age of 20 in Eldorado, IL. After serving more than 10 years as a police officer, he relocated to Arizona and married the love of his life Patty on December 12, 1987.

Scotty received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Arizona State University in 1991. He spent the next 26 years working as a juvenile probation officer for Maricopa County Superior Court; 15 of those years as a safe school resource officer in south Phoenix. His love, commitment, and passion was helping children find their path in life. The contribution and impact he made in the community was immeasurable. Scotty had a contagious smile and sense of humor that everyone loved. His devoted faith in God and Jesus Christ played an instrumental role throughout his life and career.

 He is survived by his wife, son Jason (Kim) of Hardin County, IL, granddaughter, Lexi, sisters Judy (Donnie) of Harrisburg, IL, and Bonnie (Terry) of Harrisburg, IL, brother Tim (Elisa) of Tucson, AZ, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Scotty was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He will be missed and remembered most for showering others with selfless acts of happiness, kindness, and joy.

Grave side service will be at Paradise Memorial Gardens on Friday, October 14, at 9:30 a.m. A celebration of life/open house will be held at Messinger Indian School Mortuary from 1-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Scotty Rister to Hospice of the Valley or C.O. Greenfield Elementary School (http://rsd66.org).
