Steve Colbert

Steven "Steve" Lee Colbert, age 55, passed away at his home in Equality, IL on July 31, 2023.

Born on August 23, 1967, in Chicago Heights, IL, Steve was the one of the four beloved children of Raymond and Betty (Rainey) Colbert. He embraced the craft of carpentry from an early age, following in his father's footsteps. Steve currently worked as a maintenance technician at Gallatin Manor in Ridgway.

Steve's presence touched the lives of many as a devoted father, brother, uncle, cousin, and cherished friend known as "Puddin' Head" (PH). A lover of the outdoors, he found solace in hunting, fishing, hiking, and the art of craftsmanship. During his early years, Steve could be found in the bowling alley with his friends and family. On Sunday’s you could find Steve watching NASCAR or football depending on the season. When he wasn't at his cabin, Steve could be found in the woods or by the ponds he held dear, viewing them as his sanctuary.

Leaving behind a lasting legacy, Steve is survived by his two children, Taylor (Austin) Johns and Steven M. Colbert. He also leaves his siblings Wayne (Dee Dee) Colbert and Lisa (Bruce) Bernhard, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry his memory in their hearts.

Steve now joins his parents in the afterlife, reunited with his late brother, Eddie Colbert.

While there are no immediate services planned, a Celebration of Life will honor Steve's memory at a future date.
