Sue Ann Downey, age 46 of the Warren House in Shawneetown passed this life on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in the Harrisburg Medical Center with her mother Laura at her bedside. Sue Ann was born in Evansville, IN on November 4, 1968 to the late Leon Downey and Laura (Smith) Downey.

Sue Ann was born with physical disabilities but it never stopped her from being a active and productive person. She spent many days, weeks and months of her life in hospitals, from Barnes in St. Louis to Louisville, KY where she had surgeries on her back, she then went to the Little Willow in Carbondale for therapy the only place that would take her, her parents went everyday from Ridgway to see her. She started early childhood at 4 years old, went to Brownsville School where was driven to and from each day by her parents for over a year until transportation became available, she graduated at age 21, she attended Norris City Coleman and Shawneetown Coleman which she still called home. In 2002 Sue Ann went to live in the Warren House in Shawneetown and still attended Coleman 4 days a week. She loved TV, her Cd's of music, games, Popcorn Day, shopping and going out to eat. She visited with her mother every Sunday. Leon and Laura dedicated their life to Sue Ann so she could live a normal life, it really showed as Sue Ann was a Joy to be around.

She is survived by her loving mother, Laura Downey of Ridgway, a uncle, Roger Downey of Springfield, IL, her Warren House and Coleman Center family. She was preceded in death by her father Leon and a sister Angela.

Visitation for Sue Ann will be on August 14, Friday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway. Her funeral service will immediately follow starting at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rick Wilson and Rev. Keith Bradley officiating. Her burial will be in Jackson Cemetery in Ridgway with her family.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Friends of Jesus Food Pantry in Gallatin County. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
