Beavers
Aug 23, 1934 — Jun 12, 2026
Velta Lee Beavers, born on August 19, 1934, in Rosiclare, Illinois to the late Perry and Clara (Spoon) Beavers, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, in Danville, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family. She was a cherished soul whose warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
For 27 years, Velta embraced her role as a greeter at Meijer, where she welcomed countless customers with a radiant smile and open heart. To her, everyone who walked through those doors was not just a stranger but part of an extended family. Her genuine care and infectious joy transformed simple greetings into moments of connection, making the world around her a brighter place.
Family was truly the center of Velta’s life. Her children, whom she loved beyond measure, meant more to her than anything else in the world. She found immeasurable joy in her grandchildren, whose presence lit up her days and filled her heart with pride and happiness. Her devotion extended even further, delighting in the laughter and innocence of her great-grandchildren and the tender bonds with nieces and nephews. Those moments with family were the essence of her being, reflecting her deep desire to make everyone around her happy.
Velta’s life was also marked by her long-standing membership in the Eastern Star, a commitment she held with pride and honor. This was yet another reflection of her generous spirit and her wish to contribute positively to her community.
Simple pleasures brought Velta comfort and joy—in particular, her love for coffee and Pepsi, small daily rituals that added warmth and familiarity to her days.
She is lovingly survived by her children, Velta (Charles) King and Robert (Shannon) Smith, daughter-in-law Evelyn Mangus, grandchildren Jason Smith, Anthony (Jess) Mangus, Jessie (Anthony) Moore, Emily (Ben) Morehouse, and Michael Thomas, as well as great-grandchildren Jason (Amanda) Smith, Graci (Colter) Rister, Nate Moore, Joey Smith, Eveigh Mangus, Kayden and Kinsley Morehouse, along with several great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. They carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.
Velta joins her beloved parents, Perry and Clara Beavers; her children Verna Smith and James Mangus; great-grandchildren Justin Smith and Austin Smith; and her sisters Nadine Lane, Lillian "Bea" Moore, and Wanda Jean Pyle, who went before her.
Her family invites friends and loved ones to honor her memory at the Conkle Funeral Home Inc, located at 76 N Avon Ave, Avon, IN 46123. A visitation will be held on June 26, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on June 27, 2026, beginning at 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM.
In every smile she shared and every heart she touched, Velta Beavers lived a life rich in love and happiness. She was a beacon of light to those who knew her, and her spirit will forever remain a treasured part of their lives.
