Walter E. ""Butch"" Oldham, age 62 of Shawneetown, IL died on Saturday, May 30, 2015 in Carbondale Memorial Hospital. Butch as most knew him was born in Peoria, IL on October 17, 1952 to the late Mora and Virginia (Oxford) Oldham. He was married to Phyllis (Collins) Oldham in 1974. Butch was a very active person in the community of Old Shawneetown where he spent most of his life. From being a Chief of Police, Fire Chief, a 10 year City Councilman and Mayor for 10 years, Old Shawneetown was where his heart was. He dug graves for many years and was always willing to help someone if needed. He was a good father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend and Old Shawneetown and the surrounding area will miss him.
Butch is survived by his wife, Phyllis Oldham of Shawneetown, 3 sons, David (Brandy) Oldham of Junction, Tim (Erin) Oldham and Kenny Oldham of Shawneetown. 1 daughter, Jennifer Oldham of Shawneetown, 1 brother, Freeman (Linda) Oldham of KY 10 grandchildren, 2 sister in laws, Debbie (James) Owens, Cindy (Mario) Hernandez and 1 brother in law, Danny (Patty) Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Rick Oldham a brother Clarence Oldham and a grandchild, Megan Oldham.
Visitation for Butch will be on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 from 5 to 8 PM at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown. His funeral will Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Westwood cemetery in Shawneetown.
