William L. Curry

William L. ""Bill"" Curry, age 87 lifelong resident of Gallatin County died peacefully on Monday, June 17, 2014 in the Carrier Mills Nursing Home. Bill was born in Saline Mines area south of Shawneetown on August 28, 1926 to the late Clarence and Etta (Richeson) Curry. On Feb. 8, 1952 he married the love of his life, Mary Joann (Brazier) who preceded him in death in 2012. They had been married for 60 years. Bill was a retired Coal Miner and member of the UMWA. Bill and his wife spent many hours fishing together in their retirement years. Wherever you seen Bill you usually seen Joann rather in town or sitting on their porch with a wave as you went by. . Bill also love to hunt but he really enjoyed being around his family and friends and always had a kind word for you. Bill was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be greatly missed.

Visitation for Bill will be on Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Cox & Son Funeral Home Shawneetown. His funeral service will be on Friday, June 20 at 1:00 PM, at the funeral home with Pastor Scott Luckett officiating and interment will follow in the Reid Cemetery South of Shawneetown in the Saline Mines Area.

Bill is survived by his 5 sons, Bill (Paula) Curry of Junction, Jim Curry (Judy Turner) of Golconda, IL, Charles (Mary Ann) Curry of Eldorado, IL, Mick (Sheila) Curry of Thomasboro, IL and Joe (Sandy) Curry of West Virginia. 15 Grandchildren, Jeff, Mike, Shane, Dan, Brad, Otis, Leslie, Logan, Sam, Joey and Joseph Curry, Deanna Henshaw, David Vanderboom, Amy Herrell and Tera Ledbetter , 32 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. A brother in law, Bob Brazier of Shawneetown and a sister in law, Millie Dortch of Shawneetown. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 2 sons, Paul and Rodney, a brother Millard and 2 sisters, Lucy and Pauline.

In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to the Reid Cemetery or to the Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
