William Smith

William  Eugene  Smith, age 94, passed on this life peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 in the Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Nashville, IL  Bill as most knew him, was born in Ridgway on January 26, 1925 to the late James and Orpha (Dillard) Smith.   He was married first to Tillie (Browning) Smith of New Haven and she preceded him in death in 2010, he then married Kathleen Keasler McCaleb who preceded him in 2017.  He was an owner operator in Appliance business for many years.  Bill was a Baptist  by faith.

Bill served his country in the United States Army during WWII and Korea.  He loved to be outside, from Golf to fishing and hunting.  He was very ingenious and loved to tinker with things.  He was a good husband,  father, grandfather and friend and will be missed.

Bill is survived by 2 sons, Gary (Jeanette) Smith, Lonnie (Barbara) Smith, both of Titusville, FL, and 1 daughter, Susan Pirtle of Sparta, IL.  7 Grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren,  3 sisters, Ruth Kaufman, Pauline Huish, and Joanne Kerr

Preceded by his parents, his wifes, and 2 sisters,

Visitation for Bill will be Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 12 Noon until 2:00 PM.  His funeral ceremony will immediately follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  Bill will be laid to rest in the Union Ridge Cemetery near New Haven with military rites.
