Obituary

Carroll Gene Bond, age 71, lifelong Ridgway resident passed on this life at his home on August 24, 2021.  Gene as most knew him was born in Ridgway, IL to the late O.F. & Lorene (Clark) Bond on May 26, 1950.  In 1969 he married to the love of his life the former Sandy (Heath) Bond.

Gene graduated from Ridgway High School and worked at the family business for many years, Bond Lumber and Sawmill in Ridgway.  He loved being outside.  Logging in the woods was his real love and later in life he spent many hours in his garden and taking care of his yard.  He was a member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway where he and Sandy attended faithfully before their sickness.   He was a faithful servant to his wife for over 50 years.  He will be missed by many.

Gene is survived by his wife, Sandy Bond of Ridgway, a daughter Rony Lynn Watkins (Billy Nix) of Gulf Shores, AL, a granddaughter, Sybria Dawn Durham, deceased grandson, Andrew “Andy” Heath, 2 brothers, Clark Bond and Carl (Linda) Bond, and a sister, Joyce Bond.  Many nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by his brothers, Cleve, Cletus “Doc” and Doug Bond.

Visitation for Gene will be on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.   There will be a private funeral service at a later date.
