Dorothy Dixon Smith

Mrs. Dorothy LaVerne (Moore) Dixon Smith, 90, of Seymour, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday November 13, 2021, at Schenck Medical Center.
Dorothy was born in 1931, in Vanderburgh County, IN, she was the daughter of Fred L. and Hilda M. (Reiman) Moore.
In 1950 she married Carl Dixon who preceded her in death in 1986. Two sons were born from this marriage; Rick C. Dixon and Rodney K. Dixon, who both survive.
On June 18, 1994, she and Ken D. Smith of Seymour were married in Gatlinburg, TN. He preceded her in death January 21, 2014.
A 1949 graduate of Norris City High School, Dorothy spent three summers studying at the Stamps Baxter School of Music in Dallas, TX. For twenty years she served as secretary and treasurer of two schools, Norris City Elementary, Norris City, IL, and Wood Memorial High School of Oakland City, IN. The remainder of her working years was spent in management and sales. She was co-owner of a family-owned furniture business in Oakland City, she worked in insurance and real estate, and in sales for Olan Mills Portrait Studios as well as IRI Marketing. Dorothy had been a loyal member of the First Church of God in Seymour since 1994 where she served on the Christian Education Department of the Church Board; was secretary and treasurer of the WCG; and was in charge of music and played the clavinova at church services for many years. In later years became a member of Central Christian Church. Dorothy was also an avid Colts and Pacers fan. She enjoyed spending her spare time working with flowers, playing the piano, and enjoying her family and good friends.
Besides her two sons she is survived by 4 stepchildren Kenna White, Veta Day, Marty (Kathy) Smith, Kirk Smith; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands.

A graveside service will be held Thursday November 18, 2021, at 3 pm at Union Ridge Cemetery, New Haven, IL.
