Dorothy Drone

DOROTHY I. DRONE 92 years old of Effingham formally of Ridgway, Illinois died peacefully on Thursday evening  July 8, 2021, at 11:00 pm at Lavender Ridge Assisted Living, Effingham, Illinois where she had resided for the past few years.

Born: February 23, 1929, in Shawneetown, Illinois one of 5 siblings into the Christian family of Carney Rash. and Christina (Logsdon)-Rash-Frailey.  Dorothy married William “Bill” Drone on January 12, 1948, in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Old Shawneetown, Illinois Besides being a homemaker and raising a family with her late husband Bill Drone she was also employed by the Skaggs-Reeder Drug Store for over 24 years.

(Eulogy by her dear friend, Gini Drone)

When we think of someone who was well-known and well thought of in and around Ridgway, you only have to say one word “Dot”. Whether she was refilling coffee cups, visiting with friends at their “round table” or counting pills at the local pharmacy, she always had a big smile and kind words for everyone.

Dot was a great cook and hostess to many friends and was incredibly involved with her family from their years though grandchildren and great grandchildren. They all loved spending time with Papa and Gramm’s and her superb cooking. Holidays and Popcorn Days saw the Drone home filled to capacity.

She was kind and considerate to neighbors and always showed up with food when friends were sick or someone she knew died. Dot had an infectious laugh and enjoyed reading, parties, family sports, playing bridge, traveling, cross stitching quilt blocks for children and grandchildren and just being with those she loved.

When her eyesight failed and took away a lot of her joys she still remained upbeat and good-natured.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, July 17, 2021, at St. Kateri Catholic Church, Ridgway, Illinois from 10:00 am until 11:30 am.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, July 17, 2021, at St. Kateri Catholic Church which will be live streamed at st.kateri facebook page for those who can not attend with Rev. Fr. Steven Beatty and Rev. Fr. Christian Iwagwu officiating.
