Dorothy Madden

Dorothy E. (Blair) Madden, age 93, longtime Ridgway, IL resident, passed on this life, October 23, 2019 at 7:51 AM in the Shawnee Rose Care Center, Harrisburg, IL

Dorothy was born on March 26, 1926 in a mountain home in the Head Creek community near Holmes Mill, KY, the daughter of Paris and Candace (Short) Blair, their last living child.

Dorothy married Ewell Madden, August 7, 1954 in Jonesville, VA.  She was a member of the Scott Street Baptist Church in Eldorado, IL.  She enjoyed the outdoors and especially hunting ginseng and other herbs that grew wild in the woods.  She was an avid gardener and always kept her yard pretty and neat.  She was a wonderful cook and homemaker.  She loved her family and friends and showed great compassion by often cooking a special dish for them.

She is survived by two sons, Lewie & Chris Madden of Edgerton, MO, and Clark & Cyndi Madden of Harrisburg, IL, four grandchildren, Jason Madden, Rachel (Shawn) Kirkpatrick, Evan Madden and Ethan (Corrina) Madden, four great grandchildren, Shawn and Avery Kirkpatrick and Myah and Maylin Madden.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Ewell Madden, parents, Paris and Candace Blair, seven brothers, Clarence, Orval, Dexter, Carl , Cecil, Thurmon, and Don Blair, and two sisters, Monie Creech and Nora Witt.

Services for Dorothy will be Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway with her funeral starting at 1:00 PM.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until funeral time.  Rev. Roy Dale Orr will officiate and she will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Elmwood Cemetery near Equality.
