William Garrison

b. September 20, 1942

William Charles “Bill” Garrison spent the last 77 years lighting up any room he walked in, and Heaven was no exception. On the morning of August 28, 2020, the beautiful sunrise gave peace and comfort to all Bill left behind on Earth. Bill was welcomed to the world on September 20, 1942, by his proud parents, Billy Guy and Verda Fay (Foster) Garrison. During his childhood in New Haven, Bill was given the nickname “Bee”, which stayed with him throughout life.

On February 18, 1962, he married the love of his life, Connie (Roark) Garrison, and together they had 3 treasured children. Bill worked to provide the best for his family, and never steered away from hard work. He was an Engineer Supervisor at B&W in Mt. Vernon, IN, where he retired after 20 years of devoted service. Bill and Connie then moved to Carmi, IL, and purchased Palace Cleaners. Together, they nurtured their business and the community for 23 years. He loved socializing with friends and was a proud member of the Elks in Carmi and the Carmi Country Club.  His favorite pastime was playing golf, and Bill always had a smile and story to share.

His son, Tab Garrison, greeted Bill in Heaven; we know they have already played a round of golf to celebrate their reunion. Bill leaves behind his wife, Connie, daughter – Rhoda (Tom) Cox of Ridgway, son – Guy (Kristi) Garrison of Evansville, and daughter-in-law – Cheryl Garrison of Norris City. He also leaves behind a piece of his heart in his 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren – including Anna Rae Cox, Andrew (Nicole) Cox, Kyle Garrison, Marissa (Alex) Ridge, Adrian Garrison, Kassandra (Andrew) Bouquet, Brittanie Garrison, Hayli (Tyler) Almon, and Alex (Kelsey) Bittner.

Visitation for Bill will be Sunday, August 30, 2020, at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM. His funeral service will be on Monday August 31, 2020, at Emmanuel Methodist Church in Carmi at 11:00 AM, with family receiving friends at the church after 10 AM. Rev. Mike Buckman will officiate the celebration of life, and Bill will be laid to rest in the Union Ridge Cemetery near New Haven. (Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing and masks are suggested.)

Memorial contributions can be made to the Carmi Country Club in his loving memory.
